Carl Moos – The artist behind the Klosters Travel Poster

The designer behind this fabulous Klosters travel poster was Carl Moos. Born in 1878, Karl Franz Moos was a Swiss artist and illustrator born in Munich, Germany. He is best known for his many Art Deco travel and sporting posters, particularly of skiing. Whilst it’s difficult to single out which Moos posters to highlight, his paintings such as his rendering of the Matterhorn in his 1933 Zermatt poster and this 1936 Klosters poster obviously set him apart from many of his contemporaries. Moos skiing posters made the sport glamorous and exciting. His iconic ski jumper in 1924 and the cross-country skier from 1928 that feature on  two of his St Moritz lithographic prints are particularly sought after in the art market. A personal favorite is his Swissair Services poster from 1925. Original copies of many of his posters are highly collectible, often rare and sell for large sums of money.
