Klosters is a well-known and popular Swiss resort. It one of the most famous skiing destinations in the world and has been associated with Royalty, celebrities and the jet-set since the 1950s. The resort is best known as a winter ski destination, but as this Klosters vintage travel poster shows, Klosters is a beautiful destination in the summertime as well. The poster was created in 1936 to entice some of those people that visited the resort of skiing and other winter sports activities to revisit the area for their summer holidays.
The Swiss travel poster was illustrated by the renowned and popular poster artist Carl Moos in 1936. The stunning image perfectly captures the scene when the snow has gone leaving a lush colourful Swiss countryside to appreciate. The stunning scenery of the Swiss Alps with its towering waterfalls, clear, blue glacial lakes and breathtaking views of soaring snow-capped mountains tops, is unique. Klosters is home to some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.
Moos has chosen a high vantage point in the side valley of Schapplin in the northeast of Klosters as his stunning subject matter. Schapplin is situated in the Prättigau region in the canton of Graubünden. The village of Klosters itself is just hidden from view, being behind the first mountain on the left of the picture. Moos view of lake Schapplinsee and the winding Schapplinbach as it winds its way through the stunning valley of green meadows, strewn with farms and sun-worn chalets is an awesome portrayal of Klosters surrounding Swiss Alpine landscape.
