Zermatt poster – Carl Moos – 1933
£4.50 – £9.00
Vintage travel poster : Zermatt poster 5276ft – Carl Moos – 1933
Well what can we say. We love Carl Moos poster work and this poster is no exception. In fact its got to be one of his best. Zermatt is a town in Visp in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. The region is famed for its mountaineering, winter sports and skiing resorts. Zermatt is almost entirely surrounded by the Pennine Alps including Monta Rosa, the Dom, Liskamm, Weisshorn and the hero of this poster the Matterhorn. The Matterhorn is currently classed as standing at 4,478m high, making it one of the highest summits in the Alps and the rest of Europe.
Until 1865, The Matterhorn remained largely ignored by Europeans. However, the successful ascent of an expedition led by Edward Whymper caused an avalanche of people visiting the mountains surrounding Zermatt.
Its definately one of our favourite vintage travel posters – The Matterhorn never looked so good. And a lot of people must agree because when an original copy came up at auction it sold for a mountainous £10,000. And that was way back in 2014. What would it be worth now?
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a bargain of print and poster for just £22.
