MOB Montreux Bernese Oberland Vintage Skiing Poster
What we love about Martin Peikert’s skiing posters is his unique approach to illustrating the sport. He would regularly pick unusual and interesting aspects of skiing as his subject matter. For example, his Champery poster where his illustration depicts the mountainside mimicking the contours of a young woman. Or his Les Diablerets posters that feature the pipe playing pan. Or another MOB poster that features a young woman riding on the Montreux Bernese Railway, literally.
This Montreux Oberland Bernese Poster is a beautiful piece of art. Once again, Peikart is offering a different approach to promoting a ski resort. The image features a beautiful young woman, apparently modelled on his wife, so exhausted from her week’s skiing, that she has stopped at one of the many small ski huts that scatter the alpine landscape. As she rests in the warmth of the sun sends her to sleep. The poster features the MOB train moving across the snowy landscape in front of the snow-capped mountains of the Alps. The poster was produced for the Swiss Montreux Bernese Oberland in 1956.

How much is an original Montreux Bernese Oberland poster worth?
Original copies of Martin Peikert’s posters have risen significantly over the last decade or two. His light-hearted and ofter brightly coloured images have become extremely popular. For example, his poster featuring a skier sitting on top of a Montreux Bernese Oberland train sold for over £5,500 in 2015. A copy of Peikert’s Gstaad ski lift poster sold for a little under £10,000 in 2020 and his superb Champery skiing poster sold for almost £14,000 in 2022.
The calm and serene image on the rare Montreux Bernese Oberland poster has become extremely popular with poster collectors and skiing fans alike. Consequently, original copies of this poster sell for large sums of money. One original sold for £12,500! However, that was back in 2015 so there’s little doubt its value will have increased by a few thousand pounds since then.
If you can afford an original version, then it’s definitely worth buying. There are not many things that you can enjoy that will, more than likely increase in value the longer you have it. They’re unlikely to increase in value but they’ll still look stunning on your wall.

Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £15. So you can bag a bargain of print and frame for a great price.
