Champéry ski poster, Switzerland
This Champéry ski poster is not only one of my favorite skiing posters, it is one of my all-time favorite posters from any genre. It was published by the Chemins de Fer Aigle – Monthey – Champéry and created by the Swiss artist Martin Peikert in the ’50s to promote the popular ski resort of Champery in Switzerland.
Peikert used his then-wife Henrietta as his muse. He would often incorporate images of her into his creative skiing and travel poster designs. His posters for the ski resorts of Grindelwald, Les Diablerets, Wengen, Crans and Lenzerheide Valbella all capture Henrietta’s beauty. However, to me, this one stands out above all the others. This one is clever, ambiguous, bold and even sexy! The scene Peikert has created seems like a typical ski poster. The mountains of the Alps stand out against a clear blue sky. Skiers are cutting through the snow, zig-zagging their way down the slopes of the famous Champery resort. Even the Teléférique Planachaux or Planachaux Cable Car makes an appearance in the top right-hand corner.
It takes a few seconds to realise that the idyllic scene offers up a surprise. There’s a beautiful blonde woman lying in the snow. Peikert has depicted his model wife lying back on the snow, catching some sun and chilling out. The curves of her body perfectly match the curves of the snow-covered mountain. It’s a simple idea but it is perfectly executed. Simply stunning! It’s no wonder Peikert’s Swiss resort posters are in high demand today and are sold at high prices. Original copies of this poster sell for in excess of £10,000.
Whether you’re an avid skier or simply a fan of beautiful posters, Peikert’s Champery Ski Poster is sure to bring back happy memories of your time on the slopes. The high-quality fade-resistant print is ready for framing, so you can enjoy it for years to come. Order your poster today and relive your skiing holiday every time you see it!
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a bargain of print and frame for a great price.
