Poster: White Star Line to United States and Canada poster – RMS Olympic – c1920
This is a reproduction of an extremely rare White Star Line vintage travel advertising poster. The poster mimicks the ships burgee, or flag. It uses the red background and the five pointed star to reinforce White Star Line’s branding. During the 1920s the company produced several different posters using the rad background and star theme. At the foot of the poster space has been left for travel agents to include their details.
The bright and very noticeable poster explains where White Star ships depart from and sail to. These include the picks ups at Southampton, Cherbourg, Liverpool, Glasgow, Belfast and Queenstown sailing across the Atlantic to the United States and Canada. In the middle of the star is an image of the companies first of three Olympic-class ocean liners, the RMS Olympic. The others being the ill-fated Titanic and the Britannic which hit a mine during world war one before she could enter passenger service. Original copies of this poster are extremely rare and come up at auction even less, commanding an asking price of over £4,500.
