We love this poster. At the time the trend for almost all the shipping companies was to feature the largest, or the fastest or the most comfortable ocean liner prominently of the poster. This vintage White Line Red Star Line poster places the focus on the clientelle rather than the ship. The poster was created by an unknown artist who has presented us with an elegantly dressed young woman sitting on the quayside with her travel luggage. The ship is most definately playing support here but the name on its bow reads Majestic.

The RMS Majestic was originally the Hamburg America Line liner SS Bismark. It was the German HAPAG line’s third and largest liner, in fact, it was largest ship in the world until the introduction of SS Normandie in 1935. However, other than sea trials, the ship never sailed under the German flag. Following the war, she was finished by her German builders and handed straight over to the allies as war reparations. She was renamed Majestic by the White Star Line.

An original copy of this poster sold on an online webite in 2014 for almost $2000.
