Lowestoft, Suffolk – Lighthouse
£3.99 – £14.00
Lowestoft is an English town in the county of Suffolk. The town, on the North Sea coast, It is the most easterly town in the United Kingdom. Like many of the coastal towns around Britain, Lowestoft was primarily a fishing village and port. The arrival of the railway allowed the town to also offer itself as a seaside town and holiday destination. Always looking to offer new experiences to encourage passengers to take to the trains British Rail created a series of railway posters based on the East Coast Landmarks theme. The poster series included Southwold near Halesworth, Orford Ness near Woodbridge and this one at Lowestoft. All the posters featured lighthouses and were painted by the artist Frank H Mason, an English artist best known for his maritime, shipping, coastal and harbour paintings.
Lowestoft Lighthouse was built by Trinity House in 1874, the latest in a series of towers established in 1609 to safeguard vessels along this dangerous stretch of the East coast. Mason captures the famous landmark beautifully, creating a fabulous poster for British Railways.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as a fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a bargain of print and frame for a great price.
