Horse racing at St Moritz is a legendary event that has entertained the rich and famous for 115 years. The unique race first took place in 1907 is the only horse race in the world that takes place on a frozen lake. The racecourse lies on half-meter thick ice on Lake Moritz in Switzerland surrounded by incredible mountain scenery.  Each year, over three weekends in January and February, up to 20 races take place. Horse racing is just one of the events though. The so-called Skikjöring races were first held in Lapland and in 1906 raced the streets between St. Moritz to Champfèr. Today, these races form part of the exclusive St Moritz events in the midst of the grand scenery of the Engadine mountains. Other events include chariot races, pony races, trotting races and skijoring. Skijoring is the impressive sport of skiing on the snow at speeds of up to 60km whilst being towed by the horse. Madness? yes!, dangerous? definitely, but it must be great fun to watch.

Hugo Laubi created several different posters for events at St Moritz This wonderful poster beautifully captures the essence of the St Moritz orse race. Laubi first created the image in 1924. It is an extremely popular one and was used several times for different events. On this occasion  for the Jubiläums-Rennwoche that took place on the 1st, 5th and 8th February 1925. Original copies of this poster are highly sought-after and come up for sale very rarely. One original copy sold in a 2012 online auction for £10,000.
