Sestriere Italy Vintage Skiing Poster – Gino Boccasile
The golden age of travel, from the turn of the twentieth century through to the 1950s, was a time when all the ski resorts vied to become the most glamorous and well-facilitated resorts, with some of the finest designers and artists commissioned to create stylish posters urging holiday-makers to visit.
One such poster is Gino Boccasile’s most famous vintage travel poster made for the city of Sestrière, in Italy. The iconic image of a woman taking off her jacket whilst taking a break from skiing symbolises the glamour of the era. It was still a time when skiing was for the wealthy. A sport for the rich and famous.
The woman in the poster in her green top, red mini skirt, green leggings, Audrey Hepburn glasses, and Sophie Loren looks epitomised the lifestyle. She became known as the “green woman”. She was in actual fact a 16 year old photographer’s assistant by the name of Beatrice Moisio. She is pictured in the Piedmont ski resort of Sestieres in Northern Italy.
Sestriere is a popular skiing resort that regularly hosts FIS Alpine Ski World Cup events. It also hosted the IPC World Championships in 2011 and was a main venue for the 2006 Winter Olympics.
The 1950s poster was revisited in 1978 and reused to advertise the 9th Meeting of the city of Turin at Sestrieres. Rather surprisingly, given how famous and popular this poster has become, original 1978 prints can be found for well under £1000, making them a great starting point for any budding poster collectors. However, the original 1948 prints have been known to sell for four times that amount.

Especially when they’re framed and mounted a hung on the walls of living rooms, kitchens, and offices.
This Gino Boccasile Sestrieres skiing poster is available in A1, A2, A3, A4, and 50x70cm print sizes so there will be a size available to suit your space. And at our great value prices, you can take a browse through our impressive collection and add other prints to complement your choice.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £15. So you can bag a bargain of print and frame for a great price.
