Menton PLM – Henri Ganier Tanconville – c1900
£4.50 – £16.00
Vintage Menton travel poster. PLM – Henri Ganier Tanconville – c1900.
Menton is a town on the tip of the French Riviera in southeast France. It’s the last stop on the Côte d’Azur before entering Italy. The seaside town of Menton offers a glimpse of what the high life on the Riviera must have been like around the time this turn of the century Menton travel poster was produced. With its sunny climate, shady streets, pastel-coloured buildings mansions and the old port – it’s one of the most attractive towns on the entire coast. It’s known for its fabulous beaches, gardens and citrus fruit and is often described as the Pearl of France. The vantage point for the painting is high up in the hills of Grimaldi di Ventimiglia, right on the French Italian border, possibly even from the Ponte San Luigi. The viewpoint offers a stunning view of Menton’s sweeping bay, the Port of Menton, Palmes Beach and the town. The painting also includes Monaco, the next bay along the coast, and the magnificent mountains of the Parc naturel régional des Préalpes in the distance.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a print and frame for a great price.
