On the 4th July 1976 British Rail began its new high speed train service with the Inter-City 125 that became the backbone of the British railway network. The class is officially the Fastest diesel locomotive in the world, with an absolute maximum speed of 148 mph, and a regular service speed of 125 mph. The poster features four of the newly introduced British Rail Class 43 HST’s, each with a destination and a journey length.
Inter City 125 – Iconic Design
The Intercity 125, the UK’s first high-speed train, was created in the 1970s by Sir Kenneth Grange. He was originally hired to develop the production train’s color scheme, but he took it upon himself to rethink the front end as well. He worked with an aerodynamic engineer, testing models of his new design in a wind tunnel, which was an unusual process for the railway industry at that time.
He produced one of the most beautiful railway machines ever, and easily the nicest since the LNER’s and LMS’S 1920s streamlined steam trains.
Grange’s beautiful design is still loved today, and has even been voted as one of Britain’s favorite design icons in a poll commissioned by the BBC. So it’s no wonder that people want to buy prints of this iconic train as posters to hang on their walls.

Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as a fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
