Mont Blanc Skiing poster – Combloux Haute-Savoie Téléphériques de Megéve poster – Paul Ordiner – 1935
This is a modern reproduction of a Paul Ordner illustrated vintage skiing poster. It promotes the famous wintersports resort of Combloux (Haute-Savoie), the recently acquired Hotel PLM and Mont Blanc. The superb poster was produced by the French Paris, Lyon and Mediterranean (PLM) Railway. The vintage skiing poster features an image of a woman enjoying the sunshine whilst adjusting her skis. A couple of other people can be seen enjoying the slopes. The poster also advertises stays at their own Hotel PLM which in featured in the background background.
The Savoie-Mont-Blanc website tells us more about the hotel. “In 1909, a rich Swiss property owner, M. Phyl Provence, ordered the construction of the Mont-Blanc hotel which had 50 bedrooms. This establishment was then purchased in 1923 by the PLM corporation (Paris – Lyon – Mediterranean) which extended it with 200 bedrooms and 60 bathrooms. This residence, with its large reception rooms, its terraces and beautiful columns, its refined cooking and the numerous sports options (golf, tennis, ice skating, and from 1936, its own ski lift!) attracted a wealthy clientele.”
Original copies of this poster are highly sought after and can command prices nearing £5000.
