Britannic Cunard White Star poster – Samuel M Brown – c1930
£3.99 – £14.00
Poster: Brittanic Cunard White Star poster – Samuel M Brown – c1930
This 1930s poster was created to encourage passenger travel during the golden of travel. The Britannic was launched in 1929 as White Star Line’s first motor ship and Britain’s largest motor vessel, starting her service on the Liverpool – New York route with Caribbean cruises during the winter, in 1930.
The poster was created by the British artist Samuel John Milton Brown for the Cunard White Star shipping company. It features Brown’s painting of the MV Britannic. The Britannic, and later, the Georgic, were the last two ships built by White Star before merging with Cunard. The motor ships Britannic and Georgic were retained by Cunard for use on the Liverpool-New York service. This poster was brought out to inform the world that the company was now owned by Cunard and still operating the Liverpool – New York – Canada passenger routes.
In the 1950s Britannic worked the Mediterranean winter cruise route and, in 1960, she was retired and scrapped. She was the last ship to fly the White Star Line flag. Good condition.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a bargain of print and poster for just £22.
