York Treasury House Railway Poster – Fred Taylor – 1930

Poster: York Treasury House Poster – Fred Taylor – 1930
Treasurer’s House in York is the focus of this vintage London & North Eastern Railway poster. The first Treasurer for York Minster was appointed in 1091, however very little from his original building exists today. The residence as it appears today is due to the work by Frank Green, a wealthy industrialist who between 1897 and 1898 bought three separate houses with the intention of making them one. He appointed Temple Moore, an English architect, to convert and restore the house. The work was mostly completed by 1900.
Frank Green lived there for thirty years. The house became a show piece for Green’s collection of art and antiquities, filling the tirteen period rooms with antique furniture, ceramics, textiles and paintings from a 300-year heritage. Upon his retirement in 1930 he handed the house and its contents to the National Trust.
The vintage York railway poster features the William and Mary staircase and the impressive moulded, blown glass chandelier that hangs from the ceiling in the Great Hall of Treasurer’s House in York.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a bargain of print and poster for just £22.
