Wengernalp Bahn Berner Oberland Poster
A simply stunning reproduction of a 1901 poster produced for the Wengernalp Bahn or Wengernalp Railway. The name of the artist who created the poster has got lost in the snowstorms of time, but they did a great job. The image features three well-heeled and well travelled visitors riding in a Wengernalp railway carriage. With binoculars in hand they are soaking up the stunning views of the Berner Oberland and the magnificent Swiss Alps.
The Wengernalp Bahn
The Wengernalp Railway is a 12 mile long rack railway line in Switzerland. It runs from Lauterbrunnen to Grindelwald via Wengen and Kleine Scheidegg, making it the world’s longest continuous rack and pinion railway. The railway was inaugurated in 1893 and was originally operated by steam locomotives until 1912.
The Wengernalpbahn serves the following stations: Lauterbrunnen, Wengwald, Wengen, Allmend, Wengernalp, Kleine Scheidegg, Alpiglen, Brandegg, Grindelwald Grund, Grindelwald.
At Kleine Scheidegg many passengers transfer to the Jungfrau Railway for the continuation of the journey to Jungfraujoch, the highest railway station in Europe. The trains run at a maximum speed of 30 km/h with the journey time from Lauterbrunnen to Grindelwald taking 1 hour and 10 minutes.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £15. So you can bag a bargain of print and frame for a great price.
