War of the Colossal Beast movie poster – Albert Kallis – 1958
This fabulous vintage film poster was created for American Independent Pictures (AIP) by the artist Albert Kallis. It was produced to promote the sequel to AIP’s hugely successful The Amazing Colossal Man.
The War of the Colossal Beast is a black and white science fiction film made in 1958. It was written, produced and directed by Bert I Gordon and stars Duncan Parkin, Sally Fraser, Roger Pace, Russ Bender and Rico Alaniz.
In a 1988 issue of Cinefantastique, it is reported that Albert Kallis served as a virtual one-man ad department, working first at American Releasing Corp the forerunner of AIP. His 17-year tenure with the company spanned its growth from a small independent film company to the canniest provider of low-budget films, primarily of interest to the teenage market of the 50s, 60s and 70s.
Kallis was responsible for many of the early horror movie posters that have since become cult classics. His artwork adorns posters for films including; I was a teenage Frankenstein, Attack of the Crab Monsters, Invasion of the Saucer-Men, Not of This Earth, the Brain Eaters, The Astounding She Monster, Voodoo Woman and the Blood of Dracula.
American Independent Pictures was dedicated to releasing low-budget films packaged as double features. This film was shown with Attack of the Puppet People.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a bargain of print and frame for a great price.
