Poster: Vermouth Bellardi Torino Poster – Leonetto Cappiello – 1927
There has been an ongoing argument for centuries about where Vermuth originated from. The French The term “French vermouth” often refers to pale, dry and often more bitter vermouth. Whereas Italian vermouth tend to be a red colour and sweeter than the French verision. However, it is possible to have red, bitter tasting vermouths and pale, sweet tasting vermouths.
In the middle ages, vermouth was almost solely produced in Piedmont, part of the ancient Kingdom of Savoy. Historically, there have been two main types of vermouth: sweet and dry. However, due to demand and competition, vermouth manufacturers now produce variations including extra-dry white, sweet white (blanc or bianco), red, amber (ambre or rosso), and rosé.
Italian and French companies produce most of the vermouth consumed throughout the world, although Spain, the United Kingdom, the United States are also noteworthy producers.
This vintage Vermouth Bellardi poster was created by the immensely popular Leonetto Cappiello for the Turin-based manufacturers. In the advertising poster, a semi-naked woman wrapped in an Italian flag. The way the red section of the flag billows is reminiscent of the feathers of a cockerel. The woman is dancing ecstatically whilst holding a bottle of the red wormwood wine. The drink is so good that the beauty is dancing exuberantly, presumably in anticipation of consuming some of the beverage, or possibly just for the fact she has managed to acquire a fiull bottle of vermouth for herself. Seemingly, it’s not because she has imbied because the bottle is still full!
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a bargain of print and poster for just £22.
