This reproduction poster features the classic image illustrated by Howard Terpning painting. It features Maria von Trapp played by Julie Andrews skipping across the fields with the children following, while Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer stands looking suitably unimpressed at them. The film,  a 1965 American musical drama with music by Rogers and Hammerstein, was directed by Robert Wise. The film stars Julie Andrews, Christopher Plummer, Richard Haydn, Peggy Wood, Charmian Carr, and Eleanor Parker. The film is based on a real-life 1949 memoir called The Story of the Von Trapp Singers by the original Maria Von Trapp. 

The Sound of Music is one of the most successful films of all time. Initial critical response to the film was mixed. Despite this, t became a major commercial success, becoming the number one box office movie after four weeks, and the highest grossing film of 1965. By November 1966, The Sound of Music had already become the highest grossing movie of all time, even surpassing Gone with the Wind. It held the distinction for five years. The film went on to break box-office records in twenty-nine countries. It was the first film to gross over $100 million going on to earn a total worldwide gross of $286 million.
