A reproduction of a Sex Pistols concert poster at Caird Hall in Dundee. The concert never actually went ahead and the fact it didn’t ahead is probably why so many gigs after were cancelled. This show was supposed to happen on Dec 1st, but Malcolm McClaren was offered a TV spot on the Bill Grundy show, and decided the band would benefit more from the TV exposure than the concert. The lads went on the show and swore, shocking most of the nation (and impressing much of its youth). Unfortunately, the rest of the Anarchy in the UK tour became a series of cancellations as scared councils pulled the shows. Only three of the original 19 dates of the tour were played. It didn’t really hold them back for long though, did it?
In 1976 the band at the tip of everyone’s tongue was the Sex Pistols, led by the sneering, snarling and confrontational Johnny Rotten. The Anarchy in the UK single had just been released to a generally unsuspecting London crowd. The single was proving popular when Malcolm McClaren, the band’s manager found a spot for them on TV show Today with the host Bill Grundy. An event immortalised in music history. The foul-mouthed outbursts caused outrage and shocked the elder generation to its core, but it also turned a lot of the youth on to punk music.
Two days later the Sex Pistols, The Clash,The Damned and The Heartbreakers got ready to tour the UK. Unfortunately, the 19 date tour turned into a series of cancellations as scared local councils banned the shows from going on in all but three venues. Leeds Polytechnic, Manchester’s Electric Circus and Caerphilly’s Castle Cinema. Rearranged shows at Cleethorpes’ Winter Gardens, and Plymouth’s Woods Centre would make up the ‘full-scale’ tour.
Incredibly sought after and therefore rare. Original copies in good condition sell for in excess of £1000.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as a fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a bargain of print and poster for just £22.
