This stunning film poster was produced to promote The Empire Strikes Back, the second film in the Star Wars saga. Released five years after the first film Star Wars, later retitled to Star Wars: Episode IV—A New Hope following the release of three prequel films in the saga. The Empire Strikes Back (1980) proved so successful at the box office, it was re-released in both 1981 and 1982. It is now considered by many to be the best film in the series.
The film was written and produced by George Lucas and directed by Irvin Kershner and stars Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams, Anthony Daniels, David Prowse, Frank Oz, Alec Guinness, and James Earl Jones. Many of the film’s stars appear n the poster illustration.
This reproduction poster features the ’82 re-release artwork for the US one-sheet poster. It was created by the legendary artist Tom Yung. Whilst not a poster for the original release of the film this design is a firm favourite amonsgt Star Wars fans because of unusually colourful appearance and action packed content
