The Beatles poster – Isstadion, Johanneshov July 28-29
The vintage Beatles concert poster was created for the Beatles two-night stint at the Johanneshovs Isstadion in Stockholm, Sweden. It was The Beatles’ second visit to the country within a year.
The Beatles performed two shows on July 28th, 1964 and two the day after, at 6.45pm and 10pm. Also on the bill were The Kays, The Moonlighters, The Streaplers, Jimmy Justice, The Mascots and The Shanes. A recording from one of the four Beatles’ performances at Johanneshovs Isstadion, Stockholm, Sweden turned up fifty years after the show and started circulating among Beatles collectors back in 2014. It is not known which of the four shows the recording is from. According to the Daily Beatle website “The concert was professionally recorded in stereo, however, over the years, one channel of the stereo image has been wiped. The result is that you can hear Paul McCartney’s vocal microphone loud and clear, but not John Lennon’s. Of course, when George Harrison sings into McCartney’s microphone you can hear him, but not when he is using John’s. The bass, drums and George’s guitar are heard, but not so much Lennon’s rhythm guitar. You can hear John’s voice being picked up sometimes by Paul’s microphone, but distant. Still, it’s an entertaining recording, and the missing side of the stereo image lets you focus in on some backup singing.
Although the recording is not the complete show, it does document part of the evening’s setlist which includes; I Saw Her Standing There. You Can’t Do That, She Loves You, All My Loving, Roll Over Beethoven, Can’t Buy Me Love and I Wanna Be Your Man. This lead the Swedish Beatles historian Robert Gillie to suggest the recording is taken from the evening concert on July 29th, as it ends with I Wanna Be Your Man. Fans stormed the stage then and The Beatles were asked to stop the show, which they did and returned to their hotel.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a bargain of print and frame for a great price.
