This vintage Underground poster is one of a brace of posters created by the American-born artist Edward McKnight Kauffer promoting the London Underground railway system. The posters were duplicated to highlight Summertime and Whitsuntide. The bright, colourful poster features a character walking through the woods.

The character could be a Jack o’ the Green, John Barleycorn or Green George. The crown upon his head might suggest he is the Oak-King or maybe he is a Morris dancer on his way through the countryside. Whoever he is, Kauffer has presented him stepping through the trees and out of the poster. The vintage Summertime poster was published in 1925.
