Rochers De Naye Vintage Skiing Travel Poster – Otto Ernst – 1930
The Swiss artist Otto Ernst has created a bright, colourful and very busy scene for his Rochers de Naye skiing poster. In it he depicts another trainload of skiers alighting the rack railway at the Jaman Railway Station in the Alpine peaks of the Rochers de Naye ski resort. The Dent de Jaman mountain forms a stunning backdrop to the image. The Dent de Jaman is situated above Montreux, known for its panoramic view over Lake Geneva and the Alps.
The Swiss skiing travel poster was produced by the Chemins de Fer de Montreux or Montreaux Railways, in 1930 to promote rail travel and tourism to the Swiss region. The poster reads: Chemins de Fer de Montreux et Territet à Glion, Caux, Jaman et les Rochers de Naye. Sur Montreaux (Suisse) Altitude 2045m. Which translates on the English version of the poster to Railways from Montreux and Territories to Glion, Caux, Jaman and the Rochers de Naye. Above Montreux (Switzerland) Altitude 6710 feet.
Rochers De Naye
Rochers de Naye truly is an exceptional place to visit. Located in the Swiss Alps, Rochers de Naye is a stunning natural wonder known for its sweeping views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. Elevated at over 2000 meters above sea level, this magnificent rocky massif offers breathtaking panoramas that can be enjoyed any time of year.
The Cog Railway from Montreux
Without meaning to quote the famous Deep Purple song, the Chemin de Fer Rochers-de-Naye, connects Montreux on the Lake Geneva shoreline with the summit of the mountain at Rochers de Naye. The railway line, probably better known now as the Montreux–Glion–Rochers-de-Naye railway is the highest railway in the canton and one of the world’s most beautiful railway journeys.
The cog railway departing from Montreux takes you up the mountain to Rochers-de-Naye at an altitude of 2,042 m. The picturesque 55-minute journey is a pleasure in itself. It provides stunning panoramic views of the Swiss and French Alps from the Eiger to Mont-Blanc and down to Lake Geneva.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £15. So you can bag a bargain of print and frame for a great price.
