PLM, La Route du Jura – Roger Broders – 1923
In 1922 the French artist Roger Broders was commissioned by the French railway company, the Paris, Lyon, Mediteraneé Company, better known as the PLM. Over the next decade, Brooder’s created almost 100 Railway posters, promoting destinations from some of the most beautiful regions of France. From the sunny, sandy beach scenes of the Cote d’Azur, via beautiful countryside landscapes, through to the snow-capped mountains and ski resorts of the French Alps.
This vintage Salins les Bains poster o Route St André poster is one of his earliest for the company and it is still one of his best. It features a magnificent painting of the commune of Salins-des-Bains in the Jura department of Bourgogne-Franche-Comté. The town sits in a valley in the Jura Mountains, between two fortified hills, Fort Belin and Fort Saint-André, and almost at the foot of Mont Poupet. In the poster, Broders has featured the spire of the Eglise Saint Maurice à Salins les Sains standing tall above the red-tiled rooftops of the town’s buildings.
The poster reads Services Automobiles de la Route du Jura, Salins les Bains et le Fort St André. This La Route du Jura Salins les Bains roster is highly sort after and can command sale prices in excess of £2,500.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £15. So you can bag a print and frame for a great price.
