Metropolis is a 1927 German science-fiction film directed by Fritz Lang. Written by Thea von Harbou in collaboration with Lang, it stars Gustav Fröhlich, Alfred Abel, Rudolf Klein-Rogge and Brigitte Helm.
Metropolis is a film full of spectacular imagery – the robot, cityscape, the workers, and the machines, all provided material for the promotional artists… selling the film to a contemporary audience. As a result, Metropolis has a great selection of classic film posters dedicated to it, the majority produced by UFA, a German film and television production company, and Paramount in association with the film’s initial release during 1927-1928.
This classic Metropolis film poster designed by Kurt Degen is a German one sheet poster, with incredible artwork by Kurt Degen promoting director Fritz Lang’s 1927 masterpiece.
In 2001 the film was inscribed on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register, the first film thus distinguished.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as a fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a print and frame for a great price.
