Lytham St Anne’s poster – Ellis Silas – c1950
This is a magnificent, bright, and colourful vintage Lytham St Annes poster created by the artist Ellis Silas sometime in the early 1950s. As the poster informs us Lytham St Anne’s is a seaside town in Lancashire. It is located on the Fylde coast just South of Blackpool. Silas has presented a scene of the picturesque stretch Lytham and St Anne’s beach from high in the sand dunes close to St Anne’s Pier. St Anne’s Pier is a Victorian-era please pier that lies on the estuary of the River Ribble. It was completed in 1885 and was one of St Annes earliest public buildings.
Like many piers in Great Britain, St Anne’s Pier has gone through several disasters, with fires destroying both a Moorish-style Pavillion in 1974 and The Floral Hall in 1982. The pier, which was originally 914 feet long was reduced to 600 feet not long after. The Floral Hall was a winter garden and concert hall with a seating capacity of 850 and hosted concerts and music hall acts including Gracie Fields, Leslie Henson, Russ Conway, and George Formby.
In 1974 English Heritage designated St Anne’s Pier a Grade II listed building as part of a group of promenade structures that includes the bandstand that can be seen in this poster. In the distance is the open-air swimming pool, also know as the Roman Baths. The swimming pool was opened in 1916 and was closed down in the mid-1980s.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a print and frame for a great price.
