Movie Poster: Le Milliardaire film poster Marilyn Monroe poster – Let’s Make Love – Boris Grinsson – 1960
If you love Marilyn Monroe and the poster art of Boris Grinsson, this vintage movie poster for Marilyn’s last film will be right up your street.
The 1960 comedy was made by 20th Century Fox and was directed by George Cukor. Along with Monroe, the film stars the French actor and singer Yves Montand, America comedian Tony Randall, the English singer turned actor Frankie Vaughan and Wilfred Hyde-Whyte. The film also features Milton Berle, Bing Crosby and Gene Kelly, who all play themselves in the film. The film was initially titled The Billionaire but was changed just before its release to Let’s Make Love. This explains the title of Grinsson’s poster.
By the time this film was released Monroe was already a major sex symbol and one of Hollywood’s highest-paid stars. The success of 1953s Niagara, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes and How to Marry a Millionaire had turned Monroe into a star.
In 1955, Monroe finally signed a new contract with Fox. She was to star in four films within seven years. Four years later, she had only completed one, 1956’s Bus Stop.
Some Like It Hot
Then in 1958, Monroe worked alongside Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon on United Artists’ hugely successful ‘Some Like It Hot’. The film was a critical and financial success and today is considered to be one of the greatest films of all time. Critics praised both the film and possibly more important for Monroe, her acting abilities. We assume the paycheck didn’t upset her either. The three main actors worked for a percentage of the gross takings of the movie. Monroe got 10%, Curtis 5% and Wilder 17.5 of the first million after break-even, rising to 20% thereafter. Monroe’s cut exceeded four million dollars.
Twentieth Century Fox hoped to capitalise on the success of Some Like it Hot and insisted Monroe fulfilled her contract. Following Monroe’s visit to England to film The Prince and the Showgirl with Laurence Olivier for Warner Brothers, she returned home to work on Let’s Make Love. It was to be Monroe’s last completed film with Twentieth Century Fox.
The film poster for the French release of the film was this superb image by the great film poster artist Boris Grinsson.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a print and frame for a great price.
