This fantastic vintage Les Mystères de New York poster was an almost forgotten treasure. However, it has been given a new lease of life and gained major notoriety since its guest appearance on the walls of Joey and Chandler flat in the 1990’s hit comedy series Friends. It has made the French poster vintage movie poster highly sought after.

Les Mystères de New York was a serialised novel written by the French writer and playwright Pierre Adrien Decourcelle (25 January 1856 – 10 October 1926) was a French writer and playwright.

The poster advertises the fact that Decourcelle’s novel is going to be published by Le Matin, a French daily newspaper that was first published in 1884 and ran until 1944. The serialisation of the novel appeared in 22 episodes. At the same time, the poster states that the newspaper has chosen the Pathé Brothers chain of cinemas to feature a silent movie version to run concurrently with Le Matin’s serialisation.

An original copy of this poster sold for over $4,000 back in 2010.
