For the fiftieth film in his outstanding career, Hitchcock returned once again to the spy film genre. Film’s such as 1946s Notorious and 1959s North by North West meant Hitchcock was comfortable with the genre. Furthermore, the phenomenal success of the early 1960s James Bond films such as Dr. No, From Russia with Love and Goldfinger ensured spys, espionage and intrigue were truly back in vogue. The thriller was written by Brian Moore and British writers British authors Keith Waterhouse and Willis Hall, based on a plot devised by Hitchcock, based on 1951s real-life defection of two British diplomats Guy Burgess and Donald Maclean to the Soviet Union.

Torn Curtain is a 1966 American political thriller. It stars Paul Newman and Julie Andrews, Lila Kedrova, Hansjoerg Felmy, Tamara Toumanova, Ludwig Donath, Wolfgang Kieling. The film is set during the Cold War and is about an American scientist who appears to defect behind the Iron Curtain to East Germany.

This reproduction is of a rare and collectible poster, printed in 1966 to promote the Italian theatrical release of Torn Curtain. Original copies of this poster sell for upwards of $500.
