Grand Prix Dieppe – Geo Bric – 1908
£4.50 – £18.00
The white cliffs of Dieppe can be seen in the distance of this wonderful vintage motor racing poster, created to promote the 1908 Grand Prix held in Dieppe. The artist Geo Bric has added an element of humour in the poster with the driver looking rather worried, eyes wide open as his automobile goes airbourne.
Between World War I and World War II light-weight racing cars with engines limited to 1500cc were known as voiturettes, They raced on Monday 6th. The larger cars, or Voitures, raced on Tuesday 7th July.
According to wikipedia the German driver “Christian Lautenschlager won the race in his Mercedes finishing nearly nine minutes ahead of Victor Hémery’s Benz. Lautenschlager’s average speed for the race was 69.045 mph. Otto Salzer set fastest lap in his Mercedes, with an average speed of over 78 mph”. Just 23 cars completed the race with 25 retiring.
The race was notable for tragic reasons. Henri Cissac’s car lost a tyre and rolled, killing Cissac and Jules Schaube, his riding mechanic. This was the first fatal accident in Grand Prix history.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as a fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a bargain of print and poster for just £22.
