Giant is an epic American film directed by George Stevens who won an Oscar for best Director. Giant proceeded to win 3 other awards and was nominated for 12 others! The film stars Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean. It also features Carroll Baker, Jane Withers, Chill Wills, Mercedes McCambridge, Dennis Hopper, Sal Mineo, Rod Taylor, Elsa Cárdenas and Earl Holliman. Following James Dean promising success in East of Eden and Rebel without a Cause, Giant turned out to be James Dean’s last as a leading actor. In 1955 a year before Giant was released, Dean was killed in a car crash.

Giant won praise from both critics and the public, and was a huge box-office success. The film earned $35 million in ticket sales during its original studio release in 1956, a record for a Warner Brothers film at that time. This record was not surpassed until the Warner film Superman in the late 1970s. In 2005, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”. The film received a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes
