Poster: Dominion Line Liverpool to Canada poster – 1904
The Dominion Line was a trans-atlantic passenger line founded in 1870. The company was named as the Liverpool & Mississippi Steamship Co., with its official name being changed in 1872 to the Mississippi & Dominion Steamship Co Ltd.
The Dominion Line Royal Mail Steamers offered three transatlantic immigrant passenger services One between Liverpool, Queenstown (Cobh) and Boston. A second between Liverpool and Quebec and a third between Montreal and Naples to Boston. Dominion Lines ocean liners at the time were Columbus, Commonwealth, New England and Mayflower. It is one of these four ships that features on the poster. The Dominion Line operated from the late 1800s until 1902.
In 1902 the company and its ships and routes were bought by the International Mercantile Marine Company (IMM) owned by the famous American Banker JP Morgan. It operated under the name “White Star-Dominion Line” and in 1926 the Dominion Line company, with the exception of a service in the West Indies that still operates today, was wound up completely. The Liverpool to Canada passenger trade was now transported under the White Star Line Canadian Service. The line sailed from the Port of Liverpool and Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax, Portland and Boston on the East coast of America and Canada.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as a fun, affordable reproductionS and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a bargain of print and poster for just £22.
