Davos Parsenn Vintage Travel Poster – Otto Glaser
There is something refreshingly honest about this vintage Davos travel poster. Many ski posters and prints that promote the Swiss, French and Italian ski resorts depict men and women in t-shirts while lounging on the mountain slopes. This poster features a beautiful young woman wrapped up against the cold. With her oversize red snood, warm woolen skiing gloves and black shades, she recalls the glamour of the classic 40s and 50s film era and the elegance of stars like Brigette Bardot, Audrey Hepburn, and Grace Kelly. The woman’s smile is just as inviting as the resort she is promoting.
What is Davos famous for?
In the 19th century, Davos was a small farming village at the top of the narrow valley of the Landwasser situated at an altitude of 1,560 metres (5,120 ft). The village grew in notoriety from the mid-1880s as a popular destination for the sick and ailing because the climate in the high valley was said to be beneficial by doctors and recommended for patients with lung problems.
During the late 19th and early twentieth century, Davos became known as a mecca for ice skating. Particularly speed skating and figure skating with many international championships held there, and world records set. Subsequently, Davos became one of Switzerland’s largest winter sports and ski resorts, being especially frequented by tourists from the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.
Whilst the resort is still popular today Parsenn Davos is probably most famous for hosting the annual World Economic Forum. WEF or simply ‘Davos’ is a meeting that brings together some 3,000 paying members and selected participants – among which are investors, business leaders, political leaders, economists, celebrities and journalists – for up to five days to discuss global issues. Its mission is “improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic, and other leaders of society to shape global, regional, and industry agendas.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £15. So you can bag a bargain of print and frame for a great price.
