Vintage Motorcycle Poster Circuito del Lario Moto GP poster 1929 – Aldo Mazza
Il Circuito del Lario became the most important motorcycle race in Italy during its fifteen annual races between 1921 and 1939. The road race took place on the beautiful roads around Lake Como. From the start the race was designed to try to rival the Isle of Man TT. The race was even nicknamed the Italian Tourist Trophy.
This vintage motorcycle racing poster was created by the artist Aldo Massa for the 1929 edition of the race.It features a bright and bold stylised image of a Motorbike speeding its way across the racing poster.
Racing at Circuito del Lario first took place on 29 May 1921. The 36.5-mile course crossed into eleven towns in the Lombardy region of Italy. The race was ridden for six laps, starting at Asso before speeding through the towns of Valbrona, Onno, Vassena, Limonta, Bellagio, Guello, Civenna, Magreglio, Barni and Lasnigo. The race featured more than 300 curves and covered a variation in altitude of 550 meters. The race ran for a total length of around 320km. The notoriously difficult race was known as the Tourist Trophy Italian.
After a hard-fought duel with his rival Pietro Ghersihe, the 1929 race was won by the Italian car and motorcycle racer, Tazio Nuvolari, on his 350cc Bianchi Motorcycle.
Nuvolari is better known in the motorcycle and car racing world by the nicknames of “Flying Mantuan” and “Nivola”. Nuvolari’s career spanned thirty years between 1920 and 1950 and is widely recognized as one of the greatest drivers in the history of world motor racing. He won the 1929 Circuito del Lario on his Bianchi Motorcycle.
The last Italian Tourist Trophy at the Circuito del Lario took place in 1939. However, an annual historical race open to vintage motorcycles has been held there every year since 2003.
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears, or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as fun, affordable reproductions and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £15. So you can bag a bargain of print and frame for a great price.
