Vintage 24h Le Mans 1961 poster
This dynamic Le Mans 1961 poster was created by Michel Beligond to promote the 29th Grand Prix of Endurance. Every year the race draws world-class drivers from around the world with one simple aim in mind… that is to cover the greatest distance possible in 24 hours! Beligond’s poster for the 24h Le Mans 1961 event evokes the feeling that you are back at Le Mans in 1961. Beligond perfectly captures the moment a Ferrari 250 speeds past us. His image puts us right there with the other spectators at the side of the track.
The famous Le Mans racetrack
The 24-hour race is one of the oldest and most famous motorsports events in the world. The glamorous and exciting race takes place on Circuit de la Sarthe’s semi-permanent race track. The course with its tricky corners and long straights has held the event since its first race, held on 26-27 May 1923. With its 6km long Mulsanne Straight, Porsche curves and Ford chicanes 6km Mulsanne Straight, the legendary Circuit de la Sarthe is quite rightly, hailed as one of the best race tracks in the world.
Who won Le Mans 1961?
Le Mans 1961 was the 29th Grand Prix of Endurance. It was also the fourth round of the 1961 World Sportscar Championship. The event took place on 10 and 11 June. Car manufacturers including Porsche, Lotus, Maserati, Triumph, Sunbeam, DB were all entered into the event but this was definitely to be Ferrari’s year. First place went to the Belgian driver Olivier Gendebien and American Phil Hill having completed 333 laps of the 8.3 mile long circuit. Another Belgian, Willy Mairesse and British driver Mike Parkes came in second place and a third Belgian driver, Pierre Noblet paired with the Frenchman Jean Guichet took third place. First, second and third places were won in the Ferrari 250. In fact, four of the top six cars were Ferraris.
The Le Mans 1961 Grand Prix posters are hard to come by and can cost $2,500 or more. Our reproduction is an excellent way to appreciate the poster of the original without compromising on quality or breaking the bank! If you’re a motor racing fan, then this will look great on the walls of your office, living room or even garage!
Our posters are carefully and professionally created from vintage originals. Whilst great care is taken in the production of these posters, we also try to maintain a vintage feel, so there may be small imperfections, fold marks, scuffs, tears or marks that were part of the original poster master. If these do appear they should be visible on the larger views of the item on this listing. The originals of many of the posters we offer can cost many thousands of pounds, so whilst these posters look great, especially framed and mounted on a wall, they are intended as a fun, affordable reproductionS and not intended fine art prints.
The 50x70cm version has been specially produced to be used in conjunction with Ikea’s 50x70cm Ribba picture frame which currently retails for around £12. So you can bag a bargain of print and poster for just £22.
